Queer on Screen – Visual Representation in Film

On April 23, we will immerse ourselves in the world of authentic, visual queer representation in film. What does an art director take into account when designing a queer set? How do you translate queer culture authentically on screen? Which movies already do this well, and what can be improved?

On April 23, we will explore these questions through a panel discussion, featuring professionals from the industry as well as members of the community. Together, we will attempt to discover what the ideal visual representation can look like, why this isn’t always the standard and how we can make a difference ourselves.

On April 24, we’ll move from conversation to experience with the screening of Queens of Drama (2024) by Alexis Langlois. Tickets for the talk can be purchased here.

Op 23 april dompelen we ons onder in de wereld van authentieke, visuele queer representatie in film. Waar houdt een art director rekening mee bij het ontwerpen van een queer set? Hoe breng je queer cultuur authentiek over op beeld? Wat zijn al goede voorbeelden en hoe kan het nog beter?

Op 23 april gaan we aan de hand van een panelgesprek hier dieper op in en spreken we met professionals uit het werkveld en met mensen uit de community. Zo ontdekken we samen hoe de ideale representatie eruit kan zien, waarom het er nog niet altijd zo uitziet en hoe we ervoor kunnen zorgen dat dit vaker wel het geval is.
